So, I've always wanted to try out comedy. It's actually been one of my goals to try out a set :]. I've always said it would take too much work and I needed to get better at writing. FOR AN OPEN MIC. Bogus excuse, right?
About a month ago, I was looking for activities and things to enjoy because I had just moved to Alabama! I wanted to get in on a fun group doing things I enjoyed. When I was in Texas, it was Salsa Dancing and Board Games. I have yet to go to events like those here in Alabama, however it was time for me to set a goal.
That's when I joined a Huntsville Comedy Facebook group and saw this:

Immediately I posted it to all of my friends and I said, " In exactly one month, on 2/18/2025, I will do a 5 minute set whether or not if I have material.
The next day, I went out to dinner with my friend, Brooke. We got burgers and suddenly, a very tall man walks out and yells "FREE COMEDY SHOW IN THE SPEAKEASY AT 8!!!" over and over again. Well well well, if it isn't a sign. I convince Brooke to come with me and watch this comedy show. It turns out to be an open mic!! Now, I didn't sign up. I had absolutely no material but, it was good to study and see the actual comedy scene in Huntsville was pretty great and comraderous. Is that a word?
Flash forward a month, I have yet to finish my set and there are three days before the actual open mic. I start cranking out some stories and to be fair, they were pretty good. I swapped them a couple of times. Practiced in my mirror six times the day of and- off I was. I invited a big group of people but the rest of the crowd seemed a mix of regulars and other comics. I listened, laughed, and clapped for the other humorous comics but then came my turn. and I- uh- well, why don't you see for yourself:
This was nerve-wracking to say the least. I've got a lot to work on but overall I felt I did A-OK for a first timer!!
Thank you so much for reading, watching, listening,
Coop Out.
